Academic - Fall 2013
Beckham has been propositioning a soccer stadium in Miami as part of the Major League Soccer expansion franchise in the United States. While the location has yet to be finalized, for the purposes of this project the location is set to be in downtown adjacent to the American Airlines Arena. Right below the new, expansive Museum Park and right up against the iconic bay- this site has it all.
Light
The design of the stadium was inspired by it’s need for optimal efficiency and it’s one of a kind surroundings. Right along the seawall, there are clusters of coral that form a barrier to the open sea. When studied, these formations have reoccurring patterns that inspired our organic, hexagonal structural system.

Site plan
The hexagon based grid system is made to allow cross ventilation as well as variation in self illumination. In the rendering above, the stadium is lit up in the Miami MLS official color, while in the rendering below it is left translucent in it's natural clear color.

Allowing for the masses to access the stadium with ease, there are access points on both the North and East side of the stadium. People driving in from Biscayne Boulevard can access with their cars for drop off and pick ups on the East entrance, while the access on the north end allows for the pedestrian traffic from people parking at Museum Park.
reflection
The existing water slip was partially filled in to accommodate the stadium, however a large portion of it remains to pay homage to it's function and existence.
Section
The arena has 24 modular domes. Each one serves as a sound amplifier which would give the attendees a higher sense of energy and in turn transmit that energy to the players. The retail space facing the Museum Park allows for pedestrian activation of the site even when there is no game.
